occupation

The Palatinate from above is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The program produced by SWR was broadcast for the first time on November 17, 2019 on Das Erste . In this crime scene episode, the Ludwigshafen commissioner Lena Odenthal is investigating her 70th case. The plot takes up Lena Odenthal's third case, Death in the Chopper, from 1991.

action

During a night traffic control on a country road near the (fictional) Palatinate village of Zarten, a young police officer is shot from behind in the direction of the controlled vehicle. Lena Odenthal comes to Zarten to investigate the murder. She meets while Stefan Tries again, with whom she had already solved a murder case 28 years (see death in chopper ) and now head of the police department's Tender, where he had worked as a young policeman. The internal investigations quickly reveal that Tries, together with the other officers in his precinct, is at the center of a corruption affair in which the shot policeman Hilpert did not want to take part and therefore possibly had to die. Tries is one of the suspects, especially since his service weapon is identified as a murder weapon. Although Odenthal still has sympathy for Tries and spends a romantic evening with him, she arrests him as a suspect. Odenthal hires the policewoman Fies, who is also involved in the corruption affair, to guard Tries. As expected, Tries soon left custody and drove to a drug stash. Odenthal had expected it and followed him. At the hiding place, Tries meets his colleague Trump, who admits to having shot Hilpert with Tries' previously stolen service weapon. Tries then shoots Trump and himself in front of Odenthal's eyes. The film ends with the colleagues from the Zarten office who are still alive being arrested.

Reviews

“Screenwriter Stefan Dähnert, [...] rigorously built the new 'Tatort' as a sequel and worked out the sequel character smart with quotations. […] Unfortunately, Folkerts falls off quite a bit towards the end compared to Becker. The play partner now has the stature of the middle-aged Kohl and embodies his figure ambivalently across the room; there is little space left for the lanky infatuation of Folkert's lonely Odenthal. "

"The" Tatort - The Palatinate from Above "is an exciting thriller, but also a short journey through time with Ben Becker, who is calm and at the same time extremely intensely playing, as a disaffected provincial prince with a dachshund look and a belly of prosperity, [...]. Ulrike Folkerts has seldom been as strong as in this case. After a number of rather poor crime novels, she can finally show again that she can do it. The story has to be right and you shouldn't keep tweaking the character of Lena Odenthal: sometimes a cat war, sometimes not, sometimes an intrepid heroine, sometimes deep in crisis. If it is pure, if it is straight, then this commissioner lives on the screen, maybe even until the next anniversary. "

The film service rated the film with three out of five stars. He has "comparatively differentiated character drawings" and "quite successfully" draws the "arc between past and present", whereas the criminal act remains "stuck in routine".

Audience rating
