history
The grounds of the Herzogenriedpark were already mentioned in an interest book from 1396 as the property of the Count Palatine in the Mannheim Ried. In 1923 the property was bought by the city of Mannheim, expanded gradually from 1928 and opened as a park in 1934. There was a large festival and playground as well as school sports fields on the site. At that time the Kastanienallee was laid out, which still characterizes the park today.
In 1975 the park was part of the Federal Garden Show grounds. The suspension railway Aerobus commuted between the Herzogenriedpark and the Luisenpark .
