The club was dissolved by the Allies in 1945 and re-established in 2006 with the aim of restoring the golf course. The golf course, which was used until 1944, was located on the Schuderbachswiese , which today is one of the most important mountain meadows in Thuringia with its wealth of flora .

particularities

One of the roots of the German golf tradition lies in Oberhof. The Ducal Golf Club Oberhof was founded in 1907 in the same year as the German Golf Association . It was under the protectorate of Duke Carl Eduard of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . Under his reign, Oberhof developed into a well-known winter sports resort and also received a golf course . This was partly due to the challenging terrain and the scenic charm of Oberhof.

It is the only golf course in Germany that is listed as a historical monument with the description Herzoglicher Golf-Club Oberhof with Norwegian clubhouse, golf hotel in English style and unmistakable golf course . The square was laid out on the Schuderbachswiese, which was created in the 19th century through forest clearing. The never fertilized or pesticides treated mountain meadow than 1992 area natural monument declared and has, along with many proprietary and highly endangered species, the largest deposit of arnica in Thuringia.

The former club house, later administration and changing wing for the golf instructors and caddies , is the only log house in the Norwegian dragon style in Thuringia. The Norwegian house is to become an international meeting place in the future.

In keeping with tradition, the club is still under the patronage of the House of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha today . The aim of the club is the full restoration of sports and gaming operations.

The Ducal Golf Club Oberhof was one of only two golf clubs with a nobility rating in the German Empire, along with the Grand Ducal GC Darmstadt . He still maintains the traditional game of hickory golf with classic clubs and golf balls , according to the old rules and in stylish outfits of the fashion of the time: with a flat cap , knickerbockers , knee socks in a diamond pattern and a hip flask in his vest pocket .
