Heartbeat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The heart's apex is at the palpation tactile abutment of the apex of the anterior chest wall during systole . The exact localization depends on the constitution and can also be pathologically shifted (see also hypertrophy ). As a rule, you can find the location of the apex of the heart in the area between the left 5th and 6th rib (5th ICR, intercostal space) if you draw a vertical line from the middle of the clavicle ( medioclavicular line ) downwards and slightly inwards (medial ) goes. It can also be felt in the 5th intercostal space on the left medial (inwards towards the breastbone ) of the nipple .
