The Hessen-Kassel Infantry Regiment No. 5 was a military unit founded in 1688 as Hereditary Prince Friedrich on foot in the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel . The regiment had different names.

history

The regiment was set up in 1688 as the "Hereditary Prince Friedrich" regiment. It took part in the Palatinate War of Succession and fought, among other things, in 1688 in the defense of Koblenz , in 1689 in the conquest of Mainz , 1690 in Fleurus , and in 1695 in the siege and storming of Namur .

In the War of the Spanish Succession , the regiment fought in the Battle of the Speyerbach , where it was almost completely wiped out on November 15, 1703. This was followed by fights on July 2, 1704 on Schellenberg , on August 13, 1704 in the battle of Höchstädt , and on September 9, 1706 near Castiglione. This was followed by participation in the siege of Toulon in August 1707, in the battle of Malplaquet , the siege of Donay in 1710, and the battle at Quesnay in 1712

In the War of the Austrian Succession , the regiment fought, together with the "Prinz Friedrich" regiment, on the Weser , in the Netherlands, on the Rhine, Main and in Bavaria.

In 1789 the “Leib-Fusilier-Regiment” and the “Landgraf” regiment were merged to form the “Leib-Infanterie-Regiment”. The former Leib-Fusilier-Regiment formed the 1st Battalion, the Landgraf Regiment the 2nd Battalion.

After the annexation of Kurhessen in 1866 by Prussia , the 1st Kurhessian Infantry Regiment No. 81 followed the tradition of this regiment.
