Since January 1, 2016, the cultural tasks previously distributed across three funding institutions (Film Funding of the State of Hesse, HessenInvestFilm and HR Film Funding) have been bundled in HessenFilm und Medien .

tasks and goals

The aim is to strengthen the cultural innovation and economic performance of Hessian filmmakers and, in particular, to promote productions that are carried out by producers or co-producers based in Hesse.

history

In 1982, Hessian filmmakers and cinema operators merged to form Filmbüro Hessen eV and their main goal was to create the basis for Hessian film funding.

The Hessian Film Funding was officially founded in 1985 and promoted cultural, critical and controversial film from the start.

In 1997 hr-Filmförderung and the Hessian Filmförderung merged.

With HessenInvestFilm, an economic program for film funding was launched in 2001, which means that commercial films can also be funded.

Since January 1, 2005, responsibility for the cultural and economic film and cinema funding of the State of Hesse has been with the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art (HMWK).

To simplify the funding system, all tasks have been bundled in the new HessenFilm und Medien film funding scheme since January 1st, 2016.

advancement

HessenFilm und Medien supports both films that contribute to the cultural diversity of the film landscape and projects that promise economic success.

The funding budget is 6.75 million euros p. a. for the following areas:

  • Playback funding
  • script
  • Post production
  • Production of a university degree film in Hessen
  • Production cinema / TV
