Film Office Hessen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Filmbüro Hessen is an association from Frankfurt am Main that is responsible for cultural film funding in Hessen . The Filmbüro was founded in 1982 by Hessian filmmakers and cinema operators as a “political representative of independent filmmaking”.

history

In the 1980s and 1990s, Hesse's cultural film funding was located at the Filmbüro. At the beginning of 1996 representatives of the Hessen Film Office, the AG Documentary Film , the State of Hessen and the Hessian Broadcasting Corporation negotiated the guidelines for a “Hessian Broadcasting Film Funding”.

The Filmbüro became known nationwide not least because of the organization of the Frankfurt Film Show , which took place annually from 1988 to 2005. Since the film show was supposed to offer a platform for “young talents” among other things, it has made a name for itself especially in the short and experimental film sector. In 2002 Wim Wenders tried to develop it into an international film festival.

Today 50 cinemas and around 100 filmmakers are members of the Hessen Film Office.

Film series and festivals

The "Filmfestivals Hessen" association was founded in the Filmbüro as a joint platform for Hessian film festivals. These include, for example, festival events such as the goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Films and the Lucas International Children's Film Festival organized by the German Film Institute , the German Film Museum and the LPR Hessen .

The Hessen Film Office also organizes the “HessenFilmTour” and regular film series.

In 2002 it started a Hesse-wide open-air cinema event series ("KinoSommer Hessen"), which used the Eberbach Monastery and the Borken Mining Museum as performance venues. As a touring event, it now takes place annually at around 80 venues throughout the state.

Since 2006, the film office has also been a cooperation partner for shooting Bollywood films on Bergstrasse.
