Heteromita is a genus of heterotrophic flagellates from the Cercomonadida group . The genus is one of the most widespread and common zooflagellates in soils.
features
The unicellular organisms are oval and have a small rostrum. The two flagella are applied subapically. The anterior flagellum is usually short and strikes sideways and stiffly. The rear flagella is dragged along as it glides. The pseudopodia are small and are mainly formed at the rear end of the cell. The pseudopodia are used to take in bacteria . During the movement, the rear end of the cell is shaken in a characteristic way.
