Heterophilic antibody
Heterophile antibodies (English heterophile antibodies or heterophilic antibodies ) are non-specific antibodies that cross-react with several antigens and can thus produce false positive results in diagnostics.
Examples
With heterophilic antibodies to red blood cells of wethers (sheep erythrocytes) or horses (horse red blood cells) can in an acute infection with Epstein-Barr virus , the infectious mononucleosis by the Paul-Bunnell reaction be detected.
