Hexatoma nigra is a mosquito from the family of wilts (Limoniidae).

features

The mosquito reaches a body length of 11 to 12 millimeters and has a blackish colored body. The antennae are six-limbed in the males, ten-limbed in the females. Prominent forehead tubercles can be seen below the antennae.

Way of life and distribution

The animals are found in Western Europe and colonize watercourses in mountain forests. The adults are reluctant to fly.
