etymology

For the personal name חֶצְרוֹן ḥæṣrôn , German 'Hezron' (in Num 26.6  EU .22 EU חֶצְרֹן ḥæṣron ) either a derivation from the root חצר ḤṢR (with the noun חָצֵר ḥāṣer “Hof”) is assumed, in this case it is not originally one Personal name, but a collective name (e.g. a tribal name). Or the name is derived from the root ḪṢR (from ḪḎR ) (with the noun חָצִיר ḥāṣîr "grass"), then the name is translated as "the green one".

The Septuagint gives the name as Ασρων Asrōn , Αρσων Arsōn , Εσρων Esrōn and Εσερων Eserōn , the place name in Jos 15.3  EU as Ασωρων Asōrōn . The Vulgate gives the name as Esrom , the Samaritan Pentateuch as ' Iṣron .
