Hidroeléctrica Guajoyo is a hydropower plant in the Santa Ana department in El Salvador . The operator is the Ejecutiva Hidroeléctrica del Río Lempa .
location
The hydropower plant is located on Lago de Güija , a volcanic lake on the border between the Central American states of Guatemala and El Salvador.
description
The volcanic lake extends over an area of around 26 km² and has a usable water volume of 490 million m³, the total volume is 645 million m³.
The weir has a total height of 33 m, the floor dam is 12.5 m high. The lower-lying Kaplan turbine with a vertical axis is supplied via an underground concrete pipe with a diameter of 6.25 m and a length of 300 m. The height difference to the turbine is 41 m at low water and 53 m at the highest water level. At a maximum flow of 43 m³ per second, the turbine generator unit has an output of 19.7 MW, and 15 MW at low water. The turbine and generator were manufactured by Toshiba in Japan . Hidroeléctrica Guajoyo was put into operation in 1963.
On average, the Hidroeléctrica Guajoyo power plant produces around 64.2 GWh of electrical energy per year.
