Santa Ana is one of 14 departments in El Salvador and is located in the northwest of the country on the border with Guatemala and Honduras .
The capital of the department is the city of the same name, Santa Ana . The department was founded on February 8, 1855.
In Santa Ana there is a Maya archaeological site in Tazumal , which comes from the Quiché -Maya. The 2,381 meter high Santa Ana volcano is also located in this department.
