La Unión is one of 14 departments in El Salvador and is located in the east of the country on the border with Honduras .
The capital of the department is the city of the same name, La Unión . The department was founded on June 22, 1865.
La Unión is home to the Conchagua Temple from 1693 and the archaeological sites of Intipuca and Meanguera .
