Cuscatlán is one of 14 departments in El Salvador .
The capital of the department is Cojutepeque . The name Cuscatlán goes back to the language Nawat (Pipil) and means something like "land of jewels". The department was founded on May 22nd, 1835.
The main industries in Cuscatlán are the cultivation of sugar cane , coffee and tobacco . The department is known for the sausage specialty chorizo .
