San Vicente is one of 14 departments in El Salvador and is located in the central area of the country with a narrow access to the Pacific .
The capital of the department is the city of the same name, San Vicente (official name San Vicente de Austria y Lorenzana ).
The department was founded on June 12, 1824.
San Vicente is also home to the 2,182 meter high San Vicente volcano (other name: Chichontepec ).
