Regional (North Rhine-Westphalia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A regional is a regional structural funding measure in North Rhine-Westphalia . In order to promote development, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia offers a region the opportunity to carry out pioneering and, if possible, joint projects every three years, before 2010 every two years.

The regions must assert themselves in a competition with their concepts. In a presentation year, the regions present their projects to the public. In July 2004, the Institute for State and Urban Development Research and Construction (ILS NRW) was commissioned by the Ministry for Building and Transport of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia to carry out accompanying research for the regional areas from 2006 onwards.

The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia announced in June 2016 that the structural funding program will be continued in 2022 and 2025. On March 14, 2017, the decision to award the regional in 2022 and 2025 was announced. The State Cabinet has now selected three regions from a total of seven applicants. H. in one year there will be two regional ones. Which region will be used in which year is still to be determined. The three regions are:

  • Bergisches Rheinland with the Oberbergisches Kreis, parts of the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis and the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis,
  • South Westphalia with the districts of Soest, Olpe, Siegen-Wittgenstein, the Märkischer Kreis and the Hochsauerlandkreis,
  • Ostwestfalen-Lippe with the districts of Gütersloh, Herford, Höxter, Lippe, Minden-Lübbecke and Paderborn and the independent city of Bielefeld.

The decision was criticized because u. a. Regions were selected that had already benefited from the multi-million dollar funding.
