The Regionale 2008 or EuRegionale 2008 was organized in the three-country region Aachen / Belgium / Netherlands. In addition to the city of Aachen, the districts of Aachen , Düren , Heinsberg , Euskirchen , Parkstad Limburg , the Gewest Maastricht en Mergelland and the German-speaking Community of Belgium were involved .

In order to promote structural development, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia offers a region every two years - after 2010 every three years - the opportunity to present itself with pioneering projects. The previous regional was the Regionale 2006 , successor the Regionale 2010 . On November 17th, 2002 the EuRegionale 2008 Agency GmbH was founded in Aachen.

Projects were, for example, the conversion of the Carl-Alexander dump in Baesweiler into a leisure, play and adventure park, the construction of artistically designed bridges in the Wurmtal , the intermunicipal cooperation in the Indeland including the construction of a viewing platform on the opencast mine - the Indemanns . A small floating stage was built at Eschweiler Blausteinsee. Starting from Lousberg in Aachen , a 45 km long white path was laid out from the horse park through the Müschpark in the Soers via the city of Herzogenrath to the Dutch Kerkrade. It is always characterized by white elements, e.g. B. Landmarks, fences and buildings, but also through plants that bloom white at different times of the year.

The Grenzrouten hiking trail network was created around the three-country point, with the participation of the Dutch municipality of Vaals and the Belgian municipalities of Plombières and Kelmis , which primarily includes the fortifications of the Aachener Landgraben that still exist in this section along the historical borders of the former Aachen Empire as well as the Belgian-Dutch border and the territory covered by Neutral Moresnet .

The Heidenaturpark between the municipalities of Gangelt (D), Brunssum (NL) and Teveren (NL) connects three different heather areas. Over the entire area of the former colliery landscapes of the border areas of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, two intertwined routes, which can be experienced either by bicycle (green route) or by car (metropolitan route), emerged in all as part of the Interreg project Green / Metropolitan Route Uniformly signposted connections in countries. At all stations of this network the visitor learns more about the history of mining and other historical industries of the three-country region on information boards.

The Route Charlemagne is still being built in Aachen city center , a redesign and partial rededication of historical buildings in Aachen , including the town hall , the newspaper museum and the administrative building at Katschhof .

The year 2008 was characterized by an extensive program of events throughout the region and at all project locations, such as the Across the Borders cultural festival . All projects will continue to be maintained in the interests of sustainability and will often be hosted with regular events.
