The Highton Glacier is a glacier on the east coast of Clarence Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It flows in a northeasterly direction and flows south of Sugarloaf Island into the head end of Istros Bay .
Participants in the British Joint Services Expedition to the Elephant Island Group (JSEEIG, 1976-1977) named it as Stamina Glacier (English for endurance glacier ) in memory of the efforts involved in crossing the glacier. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee , however, named him in 1980 after John Ernest Highton (* 1935) of the Royal Navy , deputy leader of the expedition and leader of the group that was active on Clarence Island.
