Hildegard Dubnick

Hildegard Dubnick OSB (* 1961 in Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago ) is an American Benedictine nun and has been an abbess in the Bavarian monastery of St. Walburg since 2019 .

Life

Hildegard Dubnick has Czech ancestors and grew up in Oak Park, Illinois , attended high school and then studied comparative linguistics and German . She has already spent two years in Germany. She was at the University of Tübingen and as a language assistant at a grammar school in Germersheim am Rhein . In 1987 she entered the Abbey of St. Walburga in Boulder and made profession on August 15, 1990 . In 1996 she moved to Virginia Dale with the convert .

On January 4, 2019, she was elected 60th Abbess of St. Walburg by the convent of the monastery and under the direction of Bishop Gregor Maria Hanke . She succeeds Franziska Kloos . The consecration of the abbess took place on February 23, 2019 in the monastery church of St. Walburg.

The coat of arms shows a young oak that feeds on the water. The oak refers to the Czech surname “Dubnick”, which translates as “small oak”, to the place of birth Oak Park in Illinois (USA) and represents a connection to the place of activity Eichstätt. The three waves symbolize the one in the motto (“Suscepimus Misericordiam Tuam "means" We have received your mercy. ") Mentioned river of mercy and grace of God. The oil bottle indicates the Walburgis oil that flows at the grave of St. Walburga. Mother Hildegard's motto is from Psalm 47 (47.10 Vulgate) “Suscepimus Misericordiam Tuam” (“We have received your mercy”).
