Hildon is an application framework that was originally developed for mobile devices ( PDAs , cell phones, etc.). It is based on the Linux operating system . It was developed by Nokia for the Maemo operating system and is now part of GNOME . His focus is on providing a user interface that is optimized for operation with the finger. It is mainly a set of GTK extensions that provide this mobile device-oriented functionality. It also includes a desktop environment with a task manager for opening and switching between programs, a control panel for user settings, a status bar, a task bar and start screen applets . The framework is standard on the Maemo platform used on Nokia Internet Tablets .

Hildon was also chosen as the framework for the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded Edition .

Hildon Application Manager

The Hildon Application Manager the graphical package manager in Hildon, based on the Debian package management tools APT and dpkg . It provides a graphical interface for installing, updating, and removing packages. It is a limited package manager specially designed for end users so that there is no direct access to system files and libraries. With the Diablo edition of Maemo, the Hildon Application Manager now supports the "Seamless Software Update" (SSU), with which a system update can be carried out very easily thanks to a number of functions.

Hildon Control Panel

Hildon Control Panel is the user interface for system settings in Hildon. It provides easy access to control panels for changing system properties.

Hildon Desktop

Hildon Desktop is Hildon's primary UI component, making up the majority of what users see as "Hildon". It controls starting and switching between programs, provides general system control and provides interfaces for the task bar ( application menu and task change ), status bar (brightness and volume settings) and applets / widgets on the home screen (Internet radio and network search)
