Hilmar Wulff

Hilmar Emil Wulff (born March 5, 1908 in Randers ; † December 21, 1984 ) was a Danish writer.

Wulff was the son of fisherman Hans Clausen Christensen Wulff (1874–1964) and Maren Sofie Sørensen (1878–1922). He grew up in Nakskov and finished elementary school without a degree. He then worked in various professions in factories and in agriculture. Wulff was also a seaman and roamed Europe in the 1930s. During the Second World War he was active in the Danish resistance , which forced him to flee to Sweden in 1943. After the war he returned to Denmark and worked as a freelance for Danish radio .

Wulff published his first poems in the magazine Sund Sans in 1939 , his first book was the novel Som vejret i april in 1942 . Hilmar Wulff experienced his breakthrough with the novel trilogy Vejen til Livet (1947), Livets Brød (1948) and Forjættelsens Dag (1949), in which he described the arbitrariness of Polish farm workers in Nakskov.

Hilmar Wulff was chairman of the Danish Writers' Association from 1968 to 1971, and an honorary member there from 1974.
