Coat of arms of the Lords of Hiltelingen

The lords of Hiltelingen (also von Hilteningen, Hiltelingin, Hiltaningen, Hiltalingen, Hyltalingen) were an aristocratic family residing in Kleinbasel and in the Markgräflerland , which is documented between 1219 and 1453.

history

The sex derived its name from the former village Hiltelingen, a deserted village in the district of today's Weiler district Haltingen . In 1219 a Rudolf von Hiltelingen is documented who owned a house in Kleinbasel. After him there was Arnold, whose son Arni sold an inherited farm in Kleinbasel in 1275. Heinrich von Hiltelingen († 1321) called himself Citizen and Council of Kleinbasel from 1285–1286. Since Heinrich, the gentlemen of Hiltelingen had the nickname Ziegler because they ran a brick factory in Kleinbasel . A Johannes von Hiltelingen, the brick maker, belonged to the council of Kleinbasel in 1347. Kuntz von Hiltelingen, the brick maker, took part in an action by Basel troops against Istein Castle in 1367 and became a citizen of Basel . Konrad von Hiltelingen is attested from 1381 to 1404 and was also mayor of Kleinbasel. Eberhard von Hiltelingen was councilor in Kleinbasel in 1424 and captain of Basel auxiliary troops in 1427, which supported the Habsburgs in a dispute over the city of Belfort . In 1445 he was chief guild master in Basel. The story of the sex ends with him. The most famous representative of his family was Johannes von Hiltelingen , who worked as a general of the Augustinian order and scholar.
