Himeyuri Peace Museum
The Himeyuri Peace Museum ( Japanese ひ め ゆ り 平和 祈 念 資料 館 , Himeyuri Heiwakinen Shiryōkan ) was opened on June 23, 1989 in Itoman , Okinawa. The memorial commemorates the fate of the Himeyuri school squad . During the Battle of Okinawa an auxiliary force was formed consisting of 222 students and 18 teachers. 134 students from this medical team lost their lives in the fighting on Okinawa.
In 1992 the museum received the Kikuchi Kan Prize .

During the Battle of Okinawa, the Japanese set up a hospital for the wounded in caves. A diorama of the third surgical department of this hospital can be seen in the memorial . In addition, part of the original army hospital was faithfully reconstructed in the memorial. Until 2004, contemporary witnesses reported on the events there. Since a renovation in April 2004, a film has been shown instead. The Himeyuri Memorial is also located on the site .
