Ascension of Isaiah

The Ascension of Isaiah , also the Ascension of the Prophet Isaiah , is an originally Jewish New Testament apocryphal script from the 3rd to 4th centuries AD , which is now strongly Christian extended .

The text about the prophet Isaiah has been handed down in the languages Ethiopian and fragmentarily in Greek , Latin , Coptic and Slavic .

Contents overview

  • Chapters 1 through 5 contain the martyrdom of Isaiah under King Manasseh. It tells how the prophet foretold his martyrdom and was later actually sawed up under King Manasseh . The Martyrdom of Isaiah (parts of Chapters 1-5) is the oldest part of the 1st century. V. And is originally written in Hebrew, all other parts are written in Greek.
    • This includes Isaiah's vision in 3.13-4.18: The prospect of the coming of Christ. Isaiah's vision is an insert from around AD 100.
  • Chapters 6 to 11 contain the ascension of Isaiah: Isaiah ascends through the seven heavens and watches the descent and ascent of Christ. Chapters 6 to 11 essentially date from the 2nd century AD.
