Hindupur is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh .

The city is part of the Anantapur district . Hindupur has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 30 wards (constituencies).

Even in summer, the city has lower temperatures than the rest of the state, which has a tropical climate, due to its altitude. The average annual rainfall is 551 mm.

Demographics

The city's population is 151,677 according to the 2011 census. Hindupur has a gender ratio of 986 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 75.2% in 2011. Almost 64% of the population are Hindus , approx. 35% are Muslim and approx. 1% belong to another or no religion. 11.3% of the population are children under 6 years of age.
