Huner Saleem
Huner Saleem ( Arabic هونر سليم; also Huner Salim and Hiner Saleem ; * March 9, 1964 in Aqra , Iraq ) is a Kurdish film director.
Life
He was born in Aqra in Northern Iraq. At the age of 17 he left Iraq for Italy . There he finished his school and started studying. He later went to France , where he still lives today.
In 1992, after the second Gulf War , he made a film underground about the living conditions of the Kurds. This film was shown at the Venice Film Festival . In 1998 he made his first feature film with the French title Vive la marie ... et la liberation du Kurdistan, which won the audience award at the 1998 Mannheim-Heidelberg International Film Festival. His third film Vodka Lemon (2003) won the San Marco Prize at the Venice Film Festival . In 2005 he received the order Chevalier des Arts et Lettres from the French minister of culture, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres .
In 2005 he also published his memoir, entitled My Father's Rifle . His feature film Kilomètre zéro was the first Iraqi film production after the third Gulf War . This film therefore enjoyed great international attention, including at the Cannes Film Festival . His film My Sweet Pepperland was selected for the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013 .
