Rojîn Ülker

Rojîn Ülker (* December 1980 in Adana ), also known as Rojîn for short , is a Kurdish singer and actress from Turkey .

life and career

Her mother is from Syria , the father from Mardin . Rojîn grew up in poor conditions in Adana.

Rojîn attended elementary and middle school in Adana and then went to the Adana State Conservatory. In 2000 she moved to the Ankara Conservatory . Since 1998 Rojîn was a member of the State Theater. She starred in several plays and films. For the last three seasons from 2003 to 2005 she played at the Erzurum State Theater ( Erzurum Devlet Tiyatrosu ).

She started her first music album in 1996 and finished it a full four years later. After its release in 2000, the album became so successful that Rojîn signed a deal with Sony Music.

In 2003 her second album was released with the name and in 2005 her third album Jan (pain). Jan contains many Kurdish and Turkish songs. Rojîn was charged with performing propaganda for the PKK at a 2003 cultural festival in Doğubeyazıt , where she sang in Kurdish.

In April 2005 she was awarded the Golden Butterfly in the Ethnic Music category. She was the first Kurdish singer to receive this award.

In 2007 Rojîn played together with the Kurdish singer Ciwan Haco in the film Dol - Valley of the drum by director Hiner Saleem . When it became known in 2005 that she would star in the film, the Erzurum State Theater did not grant her a vacation. She then announced there and stated that they did not want to be allowed to act in a Kurdish-language film. She had previously been granted leave, but when it became known that the film was to be shot in Kurdish, the leave of absence was revoked.

Together with Nilüfer Akbal , she started in January 2009 as a presenter at the first state-owned Kurdish-speaking channel in Turkey, TRT 6 . She finished her work there in April 2009.
