Hinn íslenzki Þursaflokkur (in simplified terms: Hinn islenzki Thursaflokkur) is the debut album of the Icelandic progressive rock band Þursaflokkurinn , who recorded and released this album at the end of 1978. The album achieved great success in Iceland, where it reached the top of the charts and brought singer Égill Ólafsson the "Singer of the Year 1978" award; Nothing is known about the resonance of this album in other countries.
overview
In contrast to the typical style of the band, a kind of progressive rock with jazz elements, the band here is based on the genre of folk rock . With the exception of two instrumental pieces and a catchy rock song, all of the songs - lyrically or musically - are arrangements of traditional Icelandic music.
Most of the time, these arrangements are made with more acoustic instruments, for example in the first piece Einsetumaður einu sinni , which is dominated by the acoustic guitar, the bassoon, the vocals and the drums, apart from a few electric guitar effects .
Pieces like Grafskript and Stóðum tvö í túni , on the other hand, are more reminiscent of the psychedelic rock of the later Pink Floyd with their electrical instrumentation , the former also being played and filmed at the anniversary concert in February 2008.
In addition, the rhythmically interesting Búnaðarbálkur is worth mentioning, which was a live classic until the end of the band's career.
Re-releases
The LP, released in 1978, was also released on CD in the early 1990s and is also part of the Þursar anniversary box released in 2008 .
