Hinrich Siuts

Christian Hinrich Siuts (born July 21, 1932 in Stargard , Pomerania ) is a German folklorist .

Life

Siuts studied folklore, history and German at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and in Kiel. In 1956 he received his doctorate in ethnology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel . After completing his studies, Siuts first worked at the German Folk Song Archive , where he primarily recorded and archived traditional songs .

In 1962 he got a position as a research assistant at the folklore seminar of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster , where he qualified as a professor in 1968 with a thesis on members of the calendar festivals . In 1971 he got a chair at the Institute for Folklore of the University of Münster.

Siuts has been retired since 1997.
