Hindquarters turn

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The hindquarters turn is a lesson in dressage in which the horse is turned around the inside hind leg.

The horse is led into a turn around the hindquarters with the forehand from the hold. The hind legs step in as small a circle as possible , the center of which is very close to the inner hind leg. The rear legs should not cross each other (except for the last step), but rather step in a tight circle in time, especially the inner leg; it must not simply be turned while in constant contact with the ground. This is different from the "spin" in western riding . The forelegs step sideways in an arc, crossing each other around the hindquarters and describe a semicircle, so that a turn of 180 degrees occurs.

In contrast to the hindquarters turn, the short turn and the step pirouette take place out of the movement.
