Hirofumi Watanabe (* 1968 ) is a former Japanese cross-country skier .

Career

Watanabe had his first international success at the 1991 Winter Universiade in Sapporo . There he won the classic silver medal over 30 km and the gold medal over 15 km. In the same year he became the Japanese champion in the 15 km freestyle. His first of a total of 24 individual World Cup races took place in December 1991 in Silver Star , which he finished classically in 84th place over 10 km. His best placings at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun the following year were 16th in the 50 km freestyle and 11th in the relay. This was also his best individual placement in the World Cup. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1995 in Thunder Bay , he finished 63rd in the pursuit, 54th place over 10 km classic and 48th place over 30 km classic. In his last active season in 1998/99 he won his only win in the Continental Cup in Sapporo and at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein, he achieved 64th place over 30 km freestyle and 14th place with the relay.
