Background information on horse evaluation and breeding can be found under: Exterior , interior and horse breeding .

Exterior

The external appearance of the breed is still very different at the moment, as it depends on which breed dominates. This goes from the Hechtkopf to the Ramskopf. The size is approximately 155–165 cm and all colors are allowed except piebalds. The horses of this breed can show considerable external differences, depending on whether Arabs or PRE dominate. The breed standard requires a purebred Arabian percentage of at least 25%.

interior

Hispano-Arabs are considered to be very persistent and willing to perform. In dealing, they turn out to be very extroverted and fearless. They are assigned a balanced temperament that is related to people, so they are classified as a sociable horse breed. When keeping horses of this breed, care is taken to have a human attachment figure , when keeping horses in boxes, attention is paid to the presence of other horses. The animals are sensitive to concentrated feed .

Hispanic Arabs are quick and light-footed. Due to the strong urge to move, horse owners make sure to move and keep them busy regularly. The animals are considered intelligent and agile, which is why they are also used for mounted bullfighting .

Breeding history

Already at the end of the 18th century, the Pura Raza Española (PRE) began to be bred more easily, more agile and racy in Spain by crossing with thoroughbred Arabian . Since 1986 the Hispano-Arab has been kept in its own stud book . The registered horses show at least 25% Arabs.

Since the very "young" studbook has not yet been closed, licensed PREs are crossed with licensed thoroughbred Arabians (VA) - the corresponding VA share is given in percent with the name in the papers (e.g. Ultraje 50%). The breed description in Spain is less detailed. What is important is a harmonious appearance, light but expansive movements, perseverance, intelligence.
