Historic building materials
As a historic building materials is called building materials , originate the (historic) from old buildings and derived value-preserving by dismantling. In the industry, materials from the period up to around the Second World War are regarded as historical building materials in the narrower sense, while more recent materials only play a very subordinate role in practice.
features
Almost all building materials can be reused in this way. The most frequently re-used building materials are old bricks , floor boards, half-timbered beams, windows, horticultural elements , paving stones , step plates made of natural stone and ceramic , doors. There are many reasons for re-use . On the one hand, the building materials obtained in this way have a very exclusive character because they are often unique, on the other hand there is an ecological component. After all, the building materials do not have to be newly produced. This conserves the available resources . In practice, aesthetic motivation plays a far greater role. Instead of the term historical building materials, terms such as antique building elements or antique building materials are used in commercial contexts .
In fact, there is hardly any overlap with the antiques trade, even if historical building materials have been offered at antique auctions since 2013. In total, around 150 companies in Germany offer historical building materials.
