history

Information board

The mountain town of Bärringen, formerly Peringer , was part of the Abertham parish when it was founded in 1532 . As early as 1537/38 there was a wooden church in the center of Bärringen that was consecrated to St. Anna. Since the noise of the nearby stamp mill hindered the service, the entrance doors had to be boarded up. According to a legend, the then patron saint, Count Schlick, did not fit through the small entrance opening of the church and was therefore unable to attend the inauguration of the church.

The first pastor of his own was employed in 1548. With the Counter-Reformation , the church was used for Catholic worship. The town was now part of the parish of Lichtenstadt and, since 1703, the parish of Platten . In 1709 it was decided to move the church to a more favorable location in the upper part of the village. Construction began in June 1714 under the patronage of the authorities, the margravial Baden lordship of Schlackenwerth , and was completed by December 1716. Due to a lack of staff, the pastor from Platten only read mass in Bärringen every third Sunday, which aroused the resentment of the population. Only in 1765 did the place get its own priest again. In addition to Bärringen, parts of the localities Irrgang , Fischbach and Salmthal were also part of the parish .

The tower, which originally had a baroque onion dome , was probably given a pointed helmet in the 19th century . In 1930 the parish had 3,070 Catholics. After the expulsion of the German population after 1945, the church remained unused and was consequently in need of renovation. In recent times, necessary repair work has been carried out on the tower and nave.
