The Hobie 16 is a sport sailing catamaran . It was designed in 1970 as the big brother of the Hobie Cat 14 by Hobart Age (nicknamed "Hobie") and has been built more than 135,000 times to date. This makes it the most frequently sailed catamaran class worldwide. In 1989, the Hobie 16 received by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) official international status as a device class .

Further development

The following features have been changed on the Hobie 16 since it was launched:

  • six squat Cunningham
  • Modified jib halyard to change the mast halyard while sailing
  • Gennaker kit with snuffer . Internationally, youth championships and designated regattas in Germany are sailed with spinnaker
