The Hobson Lake is a lake in the central eastern part of the Canadian province of British Columbia . The lake was named after John B. Hobson (1844-1912), an engineer who introduced hydraulic mining to the Cariboo and Horsefly areas .
Hobson Lake is on the edge of the Cariboo Mountains at an elevation of 858 m . It is located in Wells Gray Provincial Park . The lake has a length of 29 km. It runs in the upper northern part in a south-westerly direction and in the lower section in a southern direction. The maximum width of the lake is around 1.5 km. Hobson Lake has an area of approximately 33.7 km². Several glacier-fed rivers flow into the lake, including the Clearwater River . This flows into the upper end of the lake and leaves it again at its southern end.
The catchment area of Hobson Lake covers 904 km². The mean discharge of the Clearwater River at the outlet from Hobson Lake is 45 m³ / s.
The lake is accessible from Clearwater Lake to the south via a difficult footpath that involves wading through a major tributary of the Clearwater River.
