Bunker Munsterstrasse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The bunker Obere Münsterstrasse was an air raid shelter in Castrop , a district of Castrop-Rauxel . It was supposed to protect the population in the aerial warfare in the Ruhr area (1939–1945) .

The bunker was built between August 1941 and the end of 1942. From an administrative point of view, it was part of the “Bochum air raid shelter, air defense section 3”. It was 40 m high, had 13 upper floors and was designed for 1,000 people.

After the Second World War it was used for civilian purposes. The bunker was blown up on May 24, 1975 to make way for the old town ring.
