The cross was built in 1885. It was entered under no. M 054 on January 7, 1997 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

The Hochkreuz stands on a triangular square formed by Mürrigerstrasse and Grottenweg, which is shaded by mighty trees (linden trees).

architecture

The gothic high cross stands on a two-tiered substructure and a mighty, multi-segmented base on a cross-shaped floor plan bearing the inscription: Erected in 1885 .

Via a small polygonal console that used to be used e.g. B. was used to place a monstrance during processions , the base leads into a flat neo-Gothic, lanceolate-shaped niche with the inscription:

My Jesus Mercy

The niche has a three-pass closure with a strong cornice . It is flanked on both sides by a polygonal pillar, which leads over a cornice into the base for two flanking sculptures, of which only the mourning Maria standing on the left has survived today. Johannes, who used to stand on the right, is missing. From the middle part of the niche, a high, simple cross structure grows from a strong polygonal base. The left arm of the corpus is missing.
