topology

The old part is measured over a length of 1.5 km. This leads 700 meters to the west and forms a large circuit in the rear. In the new part is the bull washer shaft, the lowest point of which, the Gobetti siphon, is 794 meters below the entrance level. This shaft is one of the deepest direct descents on earth and forms an extraordinary karst phenomenon, especially due to its huge spatial dimensions with a deficit of 100,000 m³ of rock mass. The new part is measured over 4 km. Both parts of the cave have been closed since 1979.

Caving

The first explorations by local mountaineers took place as early as 1920. The systematic exploration and measurement of the old part began from 1963 to 1964. In 1972 a new part was discovered very close to the entrance and in 1975 the bull washer shaft was first driven, its lowest point for the first time was reached on February 23, 1979 by a French group.

fauna

The cave is where the cave beetle Arctaphaenops gaisbergeri was found .
