Hocine Aït Ahmed ( Kabyle Husin At HMED * 20th August 1926 in Ain El Hammam ; † 23. December 2015 in Lausanne ) was an Algerian politician Berber origin.

Life

Hocine Aït Ahmed was born in Kabylia in 1926. He completed a regular education in a secondary school. Aït Ahmed joined the Algerian national movement. He was the head of Organization speciale , the underground paramilitary organization of the Parti du Peuple Algérien . In 1947 he formulated the strategy for a war of liberation as a military-political struggle that would decisively shape the later actions of the Algerian nationalists in the Algerian war . The FLN grew out of the speciale organization .

He was one of the nine founders of the FLN and carried out political activities while in exile. In October 1956, Ait Ahmed was arrested along with Ahmed Ben Bella and other FLN leaders after their plane ran into Algerian territory and was intercepted. After independence, he and Ben Bella returned from prison in France.

However, he soon developed again into an opposition figure and tried to spark a nationwide uprising against Ben Bella and later Houari Boumedienne by founding the FFS in Kabylia . The attempt was suppressed by the Algerian army and Aït Ahmed was arrested in 1964 and sentenced to death. Later he was pardoned to life imprisonment and later exiled to Switzerland .

He returned to Algeria in 1989 and continued to take part in political life there.
