Hodoscope

Example of a simple hodoscope with three scintillator plates, each with two radiation detectors that register the light from the scintillators. The particle trajectory can be reconstructed from the timing of the detector signals and the geometry of the arrangement.

A hodoscope (Greek for pathfinder ) is a combination of several particle detectors that are spatially arranged and with the help of which the trajectory of high- energy elementary particles , atoms , ions or molecules can usually be followed via coincidence measurements .

Most hodoscopes are equipped with fast particle detectors, e.g. B. with scintillation counters that generate very short light signals.
