The Hermannstein estate is an estate in the Hermannstein district of Wetzlar in Central Hesse .

history

The Hermannsteiner Hof probably dates from the 12th century and is therefore older than the neighboring Hermannstein Castle . In Mulenheim's time it belonged to Altenberg Monastery . On April 30, 1381 the monastery sold him to Landgrave Hermann II for 500 guilders .

In 1481 Johann Schenk zu Schweinsberg acquired Hermannstein Castle with all its accessories, with the consent of Landgrave Heinrich III. , and then received it from Heinrich III. as a home falling to the Landgrave fiefdom . It cannot be stated with certainty whether the Schencken managed the farm themselves after this lending. The contract from the year 1612, which regulated the manual and clamping services, could be interpreted as a sign of self-management.

Since at least 1663 the farm was leased from the Schencken zu Schweinsberg. The lease was concluded for three years each.

The current buildings of the estate were erected around 1680 after a major fire.

The size and annual yield (around 1900 guilders) of the property are first reported in a directory from 1780. In 1808 a brewery belonging to the estate and a new horse and ox stables are mentioned, for which the Schencken had to pay more than 7,000 guilders.

In 1920, on the occasion of a change of tenant, a larger area of the estate was leased to farmers from Hermannstein. The economic hardship after the First World War made many Hermannsteiners want more land. Baron Ferdinand Schenck zu Schweinsberg, who was living in the Hofgut at the time, met this request.

The Schenck zu Schweinsberg family owned the farm until 1959. As a result of an exchange of rings between the community of heirs Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg, the Buderus group and the Hermannstein community, the estate fell to the Buderusschen Eisenwerke, which had it managed by a tenant until 2013. Since then, the estate has been privately owned again.
