description

The stand cross is approx. 3.3 m high and stands on the street of the Wöstmann homestead. The carved crucifix with a crown of thorns and loincloth is protected by a roof. It has attached a sign on the lower trunk of the cross:

Crucified and risen In
memory of
Martin Lipsmeier
died in Russia on September 29, 1947

history

Josef Picker created the cross in 1954 in memory of the sculptor Martin Lipsmeier from Delbrück , who died on September 29, 1947 as a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union and whose widow he married. There it was placed in front of the studio. After Picker’s death, there was initially no other exhibition space. Finally, in 2013, the Wöstmann family agreed to re-erect the cross at their court. After a restoration funded by the Rotary Club in Warendorf by the qualified restorer Margarethe Schubert from Münster , the now over 60-year-old wayside cross was inaugurated on May 29, 2014, Ascension Day, by the emeritus dean Walter Suwelack.
