Ferdinand Lewald

Ferdinand Lewald (born July 12, 1846 in Heidelberg , † June 12, 1928 in Karlsruhe ) was a German administrative and ministerial official and administrative judge.

Life

Born as the son of the Protestant theology professor in Heidelberg Ernst Anton Lewald , Ferdinand Lewald studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1865 he became a member of the Corps Suevia Heidelberg . In 1868 he passed the first state examination in law and became a trainee at the Heidelberg District Court. In 1869 he became a trainee secretary at the Mosbach district court and in 1870 an assistant at the cork district office. In 1871 he passed the second state examination in law and became a trainee at the secretariat of the Baden Ministry of the Interior in Karlsruhe. In 1872 he became a clerk at the Konstanz district office and in 1873 at the Pforzheim district office. In 1875 he was appointed head of the Sankt Blasien district office and in 1877 of the Säckingen district office . In 1878 he was promoted to senior bailiff . In 1879 he moved to the tax department as finance advisor. In 1884 he was appointed Ministerialrat in the Baden Ministry of Finance in Karlsruhe and in 1890 he was appointed Domain Director. From 1900 until his retirement in 1913 he was President of the Baden Administrative Court in Karlsruhe.

From 1901 to 1913 and from 1917 to 1918 Lewald was a member of the First Chamber of the Baden Estates Assembly . When the constitutional reform of 1904 came about, he made particular contributions. He was also a member of the Karlsruhe City Council for a short period as a member of the Progressive Party.

Lewald had been a member of the Grand Council of the Technical University of Karlsruhe since 1901. There he was an advisory board member in legal matters and taught public law for many years. From 1900 to 1914 he was editor of the journal for Baden administration and administrative justice . He was one of the most important lawyers in Baden. He wrote a detailed biography of the Baden lawyer and politician August Lamey . His brother was the lawyer at the Imperial Court in Leipzig Carl Lewald (1843-1924).
