Hofmark Berngau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hofmark Berngau was an imperial Hofmark in Berngau in today's Neumarkt district in the Upper Palatinate .

history

Berngau was first mentioned in a document in 1142. The place had been the center of an imperial estate complex since the 12th century and a so-called imperial court marque until the 17th century, which had been in the possession of the Wittelsbachers since 1280 at the latest . In 1315, the later Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian transferred the right of patronage over the parish church to the Cistercian monastery Waldsassen . The role of Berngau as the seat of an imperial office was soon taken over by Neumarkt .
