Berngau is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and a member of the administrative community Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz .
geography
The place is about 5.5 km southwest of Neumarkt. The state road 2238 from Freystadt Neumarkt crosses the area from west to east. The source of the Sulz is located northwest of Berngau .

history
Until the church is planted
Berngau was first mentioned in a document in 1142. The place had been the center of an imperial estate since the 12th century and a so-called imperial court mark until the 17th century , which had been in the possession of the Wittelsbachers since 1280 . Berngau belonged to the Amberg Rent Office and the Neumarkt Regional Court in the Electorate of Bavaria . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .
Incorporations
On January 1, 1972, the previously independent community of Röckersbühl was incorporated with parts of the Mittelricht community, which was dissolved on April 1, 1933. On July 1, 1972, Tyrolsberg was added from the dissolved municipality of Woffenbach, which was called Tyrolsberg until January 4, 1950 .
Population development
Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 1,714 to 2,613 by 899 inhabitants or by 52.5%.
