The standard gauge tank locomotives Hohenzollern type Bonn were steam locomotives for mixed heavy duty and were built by the Hohenzollern corporation for locomotive construction between 1918 and 1929. The locomotives are similar to the Hohenzollern type Hamborn and were in operation until 1973. The locomotives were used on the Cologne-Bonn Railways and the Moerser Kreisbahn . Some industrial companies also had locomotives of this type. No locomotive has survived.

history

Cologne-Bonn Railways

For the increasing train loads on the Cologne-Bonn railways , a more powerful locomotive was required after the First World War because the CBK 26–30 procured up to 1913 were no longer sufficient. In 1918, Hohenzollern therefore ordered two heavy four-couplers with superheated steam boilers and 17 t axle load .

The new locomotives emerged from the Hohenzollern type Hamborn , which was built before the First World War , of which nine locomotives are known that were manufactured between 1909 and 1925 for industrial railways.

A total of 14 locomotives of this type with superheated steam boilers were built for the Cologne-Bonn Railways . The first five locomotives were designated KBE 31-35 when they were delivered . The first two locomotives had different boiler superstructures when they were delivered; the dome and sandboxes had a common casing that was later removed by the KBE. When they were delivered, they also had a vapor barrier , which was exchanged for the compressed air brake used by KBE .

The machines were said to have a slightly excessive wheel flange wear. The last locomotive was in operation until 1963 and was used by KBE until the end of steam operation.

Moerser Kreisbahn

The Moerser Kreisbahn procured three locomotives and designated them as MK 60-62 . They were in operation until the mid-1960s and then were retired.

Klöckner-Werke Rauxel

The Klöckner-Werke in Rauxel procured a machine of the type, it was given the number 3 . It differed from the other locomotives because of the round sandboxes.

She was in service on several mines. In 1970 it was taken over by Ruhrkohle AG and designated as D-780 and was in use until 1973.

construction

The KBE locomotives were equipped with two sandboxes. From the KBE 59 locomotive , the front side window was omitted.

The locomotives had a very strong sheet metal frame. The third axle was the driving axle, its flanges were weakened by 15 mm. In addition, the 2nd and 4th coupling axles were mounted in the frame with a side clearance of ± 20 mm for good arc travel.

The boiler was fed by two injectors with an output of 125 and 150 l. The steam engine was controlled with a Heusinger control . The blowpipe was very high on the machine. The safety valves were Hohenzollern's own designs, as were the pressure compensation piston valves that were only used in this series.
