Moerser Kreisbahn
The Moerser Kreisbahn was a railway company in the Moers district (today Kleve and Wesel district ), which operated the railway line from Rheinberg via Moers to Hoerstgen-Sevelen .
In order to be able to better develop the north of the then Moers district , the district council decided in 1905 to build several railway lines. After the original plans had been reduced, the concession for the route from Rheinberg via Moers to Sevelen was granted in the same year . The line from Moers to Schaephuysen opened on May 1, 1909, and the rest of the line the following year. The traffic developed well, after the development of new coal deposits in 1912 it increased rapidly. Passenger and freight traffic were separated early on. In 1921, the first railcars were procured; they originally came from the Schmöckwitz – Grünauer Uferbahn . The economic crisis in the 1920s made itself felt in falling transport performance, but this increased again in the 1930s. In 1938 the Moerser Kreisbahn merged with the Moers – Kamp – Rheinberg tram, the Orsoy Rhine port and the district waterworks to form the Moerser transport and supply companies . In 1967 these went into the Niederrheinische Verkehrsbetriebe (NIAG).
Passenger traffic on the route ceased in 1968. However, the route still exists and is operated in freight traffic.
