history
Sevelen can be traced back to around 1440. The place name is explained from "Zeve" = sand and "Laer" = break and means "sandy break". Sevelen was originally a Honschaft the bailiwick of funds and was by its many potteries known as "Pottery Village".
Since the 19th century Sevelen formed a rural community in the mayor's office Sevelen (since 1937 Amt Sevelen) in the district of Geldern in the administrative district of Düsseldorf . On July 1, 1969, Sevelen became part of the municipality of Issum through the law on the reorganization of the district of Geldern .
